Background:
|
The Administration is requesting authorization to enter into contracts with eight community-based organizations to provide comprehensive summer learning programs for forty-five elementary, middle and high-school 21st Century Community Learning Centers (CLCs). These vendors will be used to facilitate academic and recreation enrichment programming to an estimated 8,000 youth throughout the City of Milwaukee.
The Summer CLC program provides opportunities for youth to be engaged and safe throughout the summer. The collaboration among MPS's Extended Learning Opportunities, School Nutrition Services and Milwaukee-area community-based organizations exposes youth to academic supports and engaging enrichment activities needed throughout the summer months. Participating students are provided healthy and nutritious meals on a daily basis. Dependent on the respective program times, a combination of breakfast, lunch, and dinner are offered at all locations.
CLCs at J-Term locations will provide youth across the city with extended-day programming beginning June 4, 2018. J-Term CLC sites will receive an additional $5,000 per location to supplement program operations.
These contracts are funded by a combination of District Extension funds and Wisconsin Shares funding.
Each of the contracts will run from May 1, 2018 through August 31, 2018. The total amount of the contracts will not exceed $1,610,000.
