Background: NOVA Tech was established as a non-instrumentality charter school beginning with the 2014-2015 school year. The current contract with TransCenter for Youth, Inc. (TransCenter) for NOVA Tech is for up to a maximum of 100 full-time-equivalent (FTE) pupils in grades 9 through 12. NOVA TECH is located at 225 W. Capitol Drive.

On January 14, 2019, the Department of Contracted School Services received written communication from TransCenter representatives notifying MPS of TransCenter’s request for non-renewal of the non-instrumentality charter school contract to be effective on the last regularly scheduled day of the 2018-2019 school year. Administration concurs with TranCenter's request for non-renewal of its non-instrumentality charter school contract.

Administration will work with NOVA Tech to ensure a strong finish to the school year. Administration will also assist families in finding new school placements for fall as needed.

The non-instrumentality charter school contract with TransCenter for Youth, Inc. for NOVA Tech will expire effective on the last regularly scheduled day of the 2018-2019 school year.

Administration will notify Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction of the non-renewal of the non-instrumentality charter school contract.
Fiscal Impact Statement: This item does not authorize expenditures.

Recommendation: Administration recommends that the Board approve the request to end the educational program of the non-instrumentality charter school contract with TransCenter for Youth Inc. for NOVA Tech, as requested, to be effective on the last regularly scheduled day of the 2018-2019 School Year.
